OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : The main objective is to enhance integrated NTD data management and to support situation analysis, programme review, surveillance and operations research. Some specific objectives are: -To provide technical support in collecting, managing data and developing data management tools -To contribute to the development of the integrated data management systems for neglected tropical diseases. -To contribute to the provision of evidence for decision making in the control of neglected tropical diseases in collaboration with other appropriate cluster/programme in the DPC cluster. -To contribute to the maintenance of information technology systems in collaboration with other data managers and ICT specialists
Description of duties: Under the direct supervision of the Regional Advisor for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) and the guidance of the Director of Cluster of Disease Prevention and control as the second level, the incumbent will be expected to: -Contribute to the development of online and desktop-based data management application for data entry, storage and processing; -Ensure regular update of databases and their transfer to related units/programmes and Member states as instructed by the supervisor -Ensure quality and security of data; -Design and write data analysis and processing application according to the needs of targeted programmes; -Use analysis and processing application to produce information in appropriate way for decision making; -Contribute to the analysis of data of specific surveys and studies carried out in the framework of activities of NTD programme and other related programmes; -Contribute to the training in the use of computer and computer-based application/tools (Operating system, office tools, data management and, mapping) to national teams; -As required, to participate in systems development projects with the NTD programme; -Participate to the preparation of progress updates and reports of activities in collaboration with the Regional advisor; -To collaborate with Country Offices, and other programmes in the DPC cluster regarding health information management; -Respond to any other request from his/her supervisor relating to his/her area of work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: University degree in computer science, Information Systems or Information Technology.
Skills:  Ability to solve problems quickly and tactfully and to achieve agreed results, including collaboration with others -Ability to analyze complex matters, exercise sound judgment and decision making -Experience with systems development lifecycle approaches and with the computing environments used by WHO/AFRO (e.g. Windows Server, PL/SQL Java/JSP web development tools and SQL server) -Oral and written communication skills, including ability to write clear and concise reports and proposals.
Experience: Essential: At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in computer science and preferably in systems development and maintenance in a team-working environment Desirable: At least 4 years with WHO or any other UN agency in the relevant field. A relevant experience in GIS (geographic information system) technology and tools will be an asset
Languages: Excellent knowledge in French or English and working knowledge in the other language.
Annual salary: (Net of tax) US$ 56,018 at single rate US$ 60,013 with primary dependants	Post Adjustment: 65.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
