Associate Country Director Niamey, Niger High competitive salary & benefits package
As well as being West Africa’s largest nation, Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world. Oxfam GB has been working in-country since 1992 – delivering relief and support in everything from livelihoods, basic social services and humanitarian emergency response, to governance and gender. Now, taking a more coherent, efficient and effective approach to our work, your Single management Structure (SMS) leadership will have a significant and lasting effect on some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
The role In this key position under the SMS, you’ll work with the Regional Centre (RC), Oxfam International affiliates and other organisations to bring about change through Oxfam’s influence. It’s crucial that we maintain a consistent and integrated approach in our efforts across Niger. Something you’ll keep in mind as you support the development of our in-country analysis and strategy, coordinate fundraising opportunities alongside the Country Leadership Team and keep the Managing Affiliate up to date with any changes to the programme. You’ll also take charge of people management; recruiting to ensure the right people are in place to implement the strategy, mobilising the team in the delivery of agreed priorities and plans and identifying opportunities to build on our capacity. But your success will hinge as much on the partnerships you develop as the operational work involved. So developing and managing vital donor and partnership contracts, you’ll create strong links and help to make a real difference to a country in desperate need of our support.
What we’re looking for To deliver in a role of such importance calls for extensive experience of driving programme development and change management, both in a humanitarian and development context. So you’ll know all about building donor and partner relationships and leading multi-cultural teams. And from a practical standpoint, you’ll be fluent in both English and French. Beyond that, specialist humanitarian and advocacy skill are essential, as is the ability to think politically, analytically and strategically in challenging situations. But just as importantly, you’ll have the credibility, the drive and the passion to positively represent Oxfam at all levels.
About Oxfam A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
