Description
General
· Identify opportunities for process improvement and policy development.
· Provide mentoring and guidance to junior analysts.
· Provide complex and occasionally highly complex financial analysis for tax and financial accounting, typically exercising a strong understanding of the business to determine the best method for achieving objectives.
· Consult with business leaders to guide and influence strategic decision-making within a broad scope
Accounting Responsibilities
· Manage the preparation of the annual financial statements and manage the annual audits of 2 non-listed entities and ensure IFRS (typically non-complex IFRS).
· External audit management;
· Internal audit management;
· Ad hoc IFRS-US GAAP conversion (advisory);
· South Africa compliance reporting;
· Balance sheet management (analysis, review, escalatables tracking)
· Liquidations & deregistration of dormant entities;
· Merger & acquisition accounting (when applicable);
· Process implementation, documentation and improvement;
· Manage records retention in terms of the Companies Act
· Input into corporate secretarial matters such as board resolutions and annual reports needed by directors
Tax Responsibilities
· Review and ensure that the following are accurately prepared and submitted on time:
- Provisional and annual tax returns (IT14 and IT14SD).
- VAT returns.
- Quarterly business results and tax forecast (Current and Deferred Tax forecast)
- Tax related financial statement disclosures.
- Assess internal policies or guidelines around tax reporting processes to ensure compliance with fiscal laws.
- Manage tax audits.
· Review/ formulate opinions around the tax consequences on day-to-day cross border invoicing as well as finance and structuring transactions covering implications arising from VAT, Capital Gains Tax, Income Tax, Withholding tax on dividends, Double Tax Agreements etc.
· Identify tax risks.
· Liaison with SARS and external tax experts.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Required
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance preferably with an advanced degree/ HDip Tax and an accounting certification
· Public accounting experience and strong tax (transfer pricing, VAT, Income Tax and Customs and Excise) background preferred
· Typically 3+ years of experience after completion of training contract
· Completion of training contract at one of the big 5 Auditing Firms
· CA(SA)

· Demonstrated ability e.g. performance rating from prior employment
· Ability to prioritise and follow through to completion
· Knowledge of local legislation relevant to finance (e.g. Companies Act 2008, Foreign Exchange regulations, the various tax laws, etc)
