RTI is currently accepting applicants for a consulting position to support our work in international education. Right now we are hiring a Reading Specialist to provide consulting to support READ TA language, linguistic and curriculum experts at the Regional State Education Bureau for one region. The main responsibility of the Reading Specialist is provide technical support and expert guidance for the development of primary grades reading and writing curriculum in a local language in Ethiopia. This person will support the regional team including RSEB language and curriculum experts in developing a scope and sequence of content for reading instruction in grades 1-4 followed by the development of a teachers’ guide and pupil textbook based on the scope and sequence.
In this role, the Reading Specialist will build capacity of the local technical team as part of this collaboration. Other activities will involve training of the local technical team and small group of teachers to field test materials and supporting general READ TA technical meetings, workshops, and reporting as needed. This person is the primary contact between RSEB Language/Curriculum Experts and READ TA Language Consultants and its counterparts at the regional level related to language details and linguistics components.
Qualifications: Masters or PhD. The Reading Specialist must have prior experience working in multiple countries. Experience with bi-lingual populations/curriculum development in multilingual contexts (primary level).
After this assignment is completed, there will likely be additional consulting projects available.
