The Institute for Maritime Technology (IMT), a division of the Research and Development Department located in the Western Cape, has the following vacancies. Applications are invited from persons who meet the qualification and experience requirements below.

Systems Engineer: Radio Frequency and Communications
The incumbent will provide engineering and technology support in the communications field.
Key performance areas:
- Supply engineering support to communication systems' technology programmes for the SA Navy
- Establish, conduct and execute trial plans (also at sea)
- Converse with clients on technical and operational matters
- Deal with the integration, diagnostics and evaluation of radio frequency (RF) and communication systems
- Test and evaluate subsystems to component level
- Handle hardware and software design and implementation, including embedded software development
- Conduct simulation and functional analyses of systems and subsystems.
Requirements:
- BEng (Electronic Engineering)
- 3 years' experience in software, digital RF and analogue design, testing and diagnostics, and in the design and execution of field experiments and data analysis
- Insight into RF system investigation, electronic design and development, and embedded software development of RF communication system
- Good communication skills and self-motivated
- Sound understanding of network-enabling technologies and modern information communication systems (ICS).
