Duties:
- Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Food Science
- the development and evaluation of Food Science course material
- supervision of postgraduate students
- conducting an active and productive research programme in Food Science, specifically in Food Microbiology/Food Safety, but also within the context of existing research focus areas
- sourcing and managing research funding
- continuous publication of research results through articles and congress papers
- the development of national and international research and industry partnerships and networks
- service rendering to the Department, the University and relevant environments.
Requirements:
PhD in Food Science or related field, with specialisation in Food Microbiology and/or Food Safety.
Professor:
- Continuous and recognised research output and a significant publications record, including international peer-reviewed publications in area of specialisation
- proven ability to raise and manage research funds
- a proven track record of considerable under and postgraduate lecturing backed by experience as supervisor, especially at doctoral level
- proven ability to lead programme development and renewal, and to provide leadership in departmental and faculty activities
- national and international recognition in the discipline and area of specialisation
- excellent administrative and managerial skills.
Associate Professor:
- Continuous and significant established peer-reviewed publication record in the area of specialisation
- proven ability to raise and manage research funds
- a proven track record of under and postgraduate lecturing backed by experience as supervisor, especially at doctoral level
- proven ability to lead programme development and renewal, and to provide leadership in departmental and faculty activities
- recognition within the discipline, with growing recognition at international level
- proven administrative and managerial skills.
Senior Lecturer:
- Proven research record and an established peer-reviewed publication record in area of specialisation
- proven ability to raise and manage research funds
- proven competence in under- and postgraduate lecturing and experience as a supervisor at master’s level
- ability to lead programme development and renewal
- proven involvement in departmental and faculty activities
- national recognition within the discipline
- proven administrative and managerial skills.
Recommendations at all post levels:
- Sound interpersonal skills
- a keen interest in a research field that is in line with the Department’s research profile
- NRF rating or equivalent
- computer proficiency
- language proficiency in Afrikaans and English.
