Defence Decision Support Institute (DDSI), a division of the Armscor Research and Development (R&D) Department, has an exciting vacancy for a person meeting the requirements mentioned hereunder.
Senior Decision Support Scientist

The successful candidate will research new technologies, conduct historical analyses, as well as benchmark and analyse the latest trends applicable to decision-making and long-term planning for the SANDF. He/she will work in a multidisciplinary team, a factor that contributes to the success of the division.
Responsibilities:
- Research and apply planning methodologies applicable to the SANDF
- Conduct historical analyses applicable to the SANDF
- Advise the SANDF on decision-making based on research findings
- Provide inputs to decision-making at strategic, operational and tactical level
- Investigate problem areas and decide on the most applicable solution
- Benchmark and analyse international military trends and developments applicable to the SANDF
- Conduct environmental scanning and long-term planning for the SANDF
Requirements:
- A BSc degree in Operational Research/Engineering (Industrial)/Military or equivalent
- Completion of a Senior Command and Staff Course
- A minimum of 10 years' military experience focusing on Decision Support Science
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in operational research and projects
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Good problem-solving skills
- Interpersonal skills
- Good computer literacy (MS Office professional and the Internet)
- Knowledge of the defence environment
- Knowledge of defence decision support tools and methodologies
- Skill in defence-related application of research and analysis methodologies
- Conceptualisation ability to develop logic models.
