The Institute for Maritime Technology (IMT), a division of the Research and Development Department located in the Western Cape, has the following vacancies. Applications are invited from persons who meet the qualification and experience requirements below.

Chief Engineer: Digital Signal Processing and Electronics
The incumbent will provide engineering and technology support in the field of digital signal processing and electronic design.
Key performance areas:
- Design, develop, integrate, diagnose and evaluate digital signal processing and electronic systems for underwater technology programmes of the SA Navy
- Formulate plans as well as conduct and execute technical trials (also at sea)
- Converse with clients on technical and operational matters
- Present findings of technology projects at formal client forums
- Test and evaluate subsystems to component level
- Deal with hardware and software design and implementation, including embedded software development
- Conduct simulation and functional analyses of systems and subsystems
- Manage small technology-related projects (planning, organising, managing, controlling resources).
Requirements:
- BEng (Electronic Engineering)
- 8-10 years' experience in software, DSP and electronic design, testing and diagnostics, and the design and execution of field experiments and data analysis
- 2-3 years' project management experience
- Knowledge of electronic design and development of digital signal processing and embedded software development
- Good interpersonal, communication, planning and organising skills
- Strong technical thinker with problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Computer literacy
- Strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
