The Context
The DRC is one of the largest, most complex and the poorest countries in Africa. Oxfam will implement one of it’s largest programs providing emergency relief and development, and placing the DRC as a priority country for it’s efforts to humanitarian advocacy. Improving the effectiveness of humanitarian assistance is a priority for the advocacy work of Oxfam International, which aims to defend the rights of people affected by conflict and natural disasters. We seek to ensure that assistance is provided as needed and be free from political and military considerations. In addition, we seek to preserve humanitarian space in the global and local levels and to respond to issues of humanitarian access.
The role
As Oxfam advocacy and policy lead, provide strategic and operational leadership to Oxfam's advocacy, campaigning and media work for the DRC.
The person
To achieve these results, you will be flexible, ambitious, creative and determined. You will have had experience in similar positions and as well as experience in humanitarian and development work. You will be highly analytical and have excellent information gathering skills as well as the ability to seek innovative solutions to complex problems. Excellent skills in building relationships, communication and diplomacy. Mastery of French and English, a demonstrated ability to produce convincing documents in English to a high level of professionalism and conduct meetings in French lobbying capacity. Experience of advocacy, policy and communications change work in a conflict and poverty environment.
