Communications Expert: Optimising Fertilizer Recommendations in Africa (OFRA)

Background
The Communications Expert will help in collecting relevant content sub-grantees and other OFRA partners and formatting this into different information and communications materials on fertilizer use, Integrated Soil Fertility Management and other agricultural approaches for different audiences including farmers, agrodealers, extension workers and scientists.
Under the supervision of the Communications Manager, he/she will work with the Science Coordinator from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (USA) and National Agricultural and Extension Systems (NARES) of 13 countries namely Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia, Ethiopia and Malawi to identify ISFM information needs of different stakeholders and produce relevant communication materials in appropriate formats.
Key Skills• Strong awareness and understanding of gender issues required and specific gender related skills desirable.
• Advanced computing skills primarily in publishing, graphics and content management packages
• Fluency in English, with first class written and oral communication skills.
• An ability to rapidly synthesize technical information, translate it for different audiences and communicate it effectively and persuasively
• Strong interpersonal and networking skills
• Ability to engage with a range of stakeholders (including farmers) to ensure that their inputs and feedback are taken into account.
• Good working knowledge of the MS Office suite of programs specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint statistical packages, and Outlook.
