OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : To provide leadership, technical orientation and support to Member States of the WHO African Region based on the resolutions and recommendations of the Governing Bodies as well as the strategic directions of the Regional Office regarding disease surveillance and response, public health risks and threats, prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases
Description of duties: Under the supervision of the Director Disease Prevention and Control Cluster, the immediate supervision of the Malaria Regional Adviser and in collaboration with the Cluster Technical Officer for Statistics and Database management and other relevant staff/units, the incumbent's duties shall be to: 1)Assist in gathering data regularly with regard to financing, procurement, supply chain, intervention coverage, and health impact for their respective countries 2)Liaise with RSIS and Shock Room staff at AFRO and Malaria Situation Room at HQ to ensure regular data validation and exchange with regard to financing, procurement, supply chain, intervention coverage, and health impact at national and subnational level in the 10 countries 3)Ensure that data sources from RSIS and Shock Room are incorporated to the Database of the Malaria Situation Room 4)Contribute to the regular update of the RSIS and support the cluster programmes in data management as requested 5)Provide assistance (together with the respective country focal persons of the Malaria Situation Room) in data summary and analysis to the 10 country programmes. 6)Provide technical and implementation assistance of bottlenecks to the 10 countries where identified and monitor progress and results 7)Participate in regular teleconferencing, meetings and country visits related to the Malaria Situation Room. 8)Perform any other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Essential: University degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics or Computer Science. Desirable: Training in data management.
Skills:  - Advanced skills in complex database development and maintenance using Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL, Oracle or other RDBMS; - Ability to consolidate information from multiple sources and prepare strategic information for decision makers; - Proven experience to function within multi-disciplinary and multi-national teams; - Ability to achieve consensus and coordination through teambuilding; - Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Experience: Essential: - At least 5 years experience at national and international (with at least 3 years at international level) level in medical research, epidemiological data collection or the application of statistical methods, especially health statistics; - Programming skills; - Experience in gathering, collating, validating and summarizing health-related data from multiple sources; Experience in compiling reports using various sources of data (Financial, Epidemiological, programmatic.) - Good understanding of complex database structure and management. Desirable: Working experience with a UN Agency would be an asset.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English or French with working knowledge of the other. Knowledge of Portuguese would be an asset.
Annual salary: (Net of tax) US$ 56,091 at single rate US$ 60,091 with primary dependants	Post Adjustment: 65.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
