The University of the Witwatersrand seeks to appoint an influential Executive Dean to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, with a proven ability in the following key performance areas:

• Academic leadership and citizenship
• Strategic planning and administration
• Human resources management
• Financial management

While the dean is a member of the University’s Senior Executive Team s/he is also the leader of the Faculty. In fulfilling this dual role s/he will reflect the concerns of the central administration to the Faculty, and present the concerns and interests of the Faculty to the Senior Executive Team. S/he will therefore have, or will develop, a good understanding of:

• South African higher education and its current imperatives
• Education, training and development systems, and strategies in a tertiary context
• Market developments relating to graduate demand
• Research promotion and demands
• Professional developments and bodies relevant to the faculty
• Industry/private sector/public sector relations

The candidate must possess a PhD qualification and have the ability to meet the University criteria for professorial appointment.

Remuneration: An attractive remuneration package is offered commensurate with the seniority of the position.
